Multimessenger Approach to out-of-equilibrium DYnamics in Complex Systems (MADYCS)

Europe/Rome
Description

Welcome to the MADYCS Workshop

The investigation of non-equilibrium phenomena in condensed matter physics is attracting a rapidly growing attention of the scientific community, supported by the availability of novel sources of ultrashort light pulses, including both table-top lasers and large-scale facilities, such as free electron lasers.

The complementarity of these instruments has proven to be crucial, enabling for a multi-messenger approach to the study of complex systems, combining different temporal, spatial and energetic regimes accessible using complementary experimental methods.

The application of these sources to time-resolved spectroscopies, including photon-in / photon-out and photon-in / electron-out, has enabled the development of innovative instruments capable of a precise measurement of the dynamics of complex materials brought out-of-equilibrium.

The Multimessenger Approach to out-of-equilibrium DYnamics in Complex Systems (MADYCS) workshop aims to discuss the latest results from cutting-edge time-resolved spectroscopies, presenting the state of the art in both the science and the technological aspects connected to out-of-equilibrium physics.

The event will comprise four sections, dedicated to time-resolved spectroscopies based on tabletop sources, high harmonic generation (HHG) and free electron lasers (FEL), with emphasis their complementarity. Invited speakers from Italy and Europe will present their recent results on several classes of complex materials, ranging from two-dimensional systems to superconductors, from nanostructured materials to transition metal dichalcogenides, from perovskite to magnetic materials.

The workshop will include a round table, to discuss about future directions and advancements of the SPRINT and T-ReX facilities, with particular attention to the development of strategies for promoting a multi-messenger approach to the study of complex materials.

MADYCS follows two past workshops held in Trieste: Integrating table-top laser, seeded-free electron laser and storage ring sources for time resolved spectroscopies (December 2014) and Time-resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy from tabletop UV and HHG laser sources, Synchrotrons and FELs: experiments and challenges (TPES) (December 2017).

The recognized expertise of the invited speakers will constitute the starting point for fruitful discussions and the creation of future collaborations, especially for young scientists.
